This score reflects a <strong>\u00abEDC potential\u00bb<\/strong> estimated at <strong>level of regional preparedness<\/strong> the implementation of CO\u2082 removal, based on available and comparable indicators in accordance with the AFEN methodology described below. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u201cEDC Projects\u201d items\u201d<\/strong> : projects <strong>traceable<\/strong> within France (mainland France), marked as points of interest on the map. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Scope<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mainland France (13 regions, including Corsica)<\/strong>.<br>Overseas territories are excluded at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>How the regional score is calculated<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The regional score (0\u201310) is calculated by aggregating three sub-scores, each of which is scored <strong>0\u20136<\/strong>, then weighted:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sequestration<\/strong> (40%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Feedstock<\/strong> (40%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ecosystem<\/strong> (20%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>For complete details (criteria, scales, sources): download our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/afen.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/EDC-Territoires-_-methodologique-detaillee.pdf\">Detailed Methodology<\/a><\/strong>. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>How EDC projects are selected<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u201cEDC projects\u201d sections are based on a <strong>list <\/strong>based on transparent inclusion criteria:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A strong presence in France,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;EDC Intention,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;Technology or semi-technology sector.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>For complete details (criteria and list of selected projects): see <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/afen.fr\/en\/news\/edc-territories-list-of-projects-categories-and-inclusion-criteria\/\">List of EDC Projects and Inclusion Criteria<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Important notes (please read before interpreting)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The score for each region<\/strong> (shades of green) takes a broad approach, taking into account the resources and infrastructure available in each region for all EDC approaches, whether natural or technological. However, when it comes to identifying <a href=\"https:\/\/afen.fr\/en\/actualite\/edc-territoires-liste-des-projets-repertories-et-criteres-dinclusion\/#\">existing projects<\/a> (mapped pictograms), we focus on the <strong>technological and semi-technological solutions <\/strong>: emerging solutions, which are still few in number, that will require a massive increase in scale by 2050 according to the goals of the SNBC 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The score is based in part on <strong>proxies<\/strong> (e.g., % of forest, % of UAA): these indicate <strong>territorial conditions<\/strong>, not an automatically \u201cmobilizable\u201d capacity.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some elements are <strong>qualitative<\/strong> (CO\u2082 infrastructure, sector structuring): These are based on references in various public sources and documents (see list below) and are explained in the detailed methodology.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Signals related to <strong>CCUS<\/strong> (capture\/transport\/storage for decarbonization) are used as <strong>readiness indicators<\/strong> (infrastructure, \u201cCO\u2082\u201d initiatives), without being confused with EDC projects.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This map is a <strong>This is a work in progress.
