Dear members and partners,
As California battles unprecedented wildfires and Europe recovers from devastating floods, our mission at AFEN has never been more vital.
Please find attached our reflections on 2024 and our priorities for 2025.
Globally, the landscape is changing rapidly. Canada has introduced a carbon removal purchasing and support program, Germany is developing its national strategy, and the EU has adopted the Carbon Removal Certification Framework. Meanwhile, the United States continues to accelerate the implementation of initiatives under the IRA and BIL. France, too, has all the resources to emerge as a European leader in this field – from its extensive maritime territory to its industrial expertise and decarbonized energy mix.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are committed to accelerating the development of a comprehensive national CDR strategy, advancing infrastructure, and expanding our network of stakeholders.
The path forward is clear: with the right vision and support mechanisms in place, France can achieve its climate goals while creating substantial economic value through a competitive CDR sector. That said, carbon removal must go hand in hand with bold efforts to reduce emissions. We urge all stakeholders to intensify their actions in this crucial area.
We're grateful for the support and impressed by the progress of our members, and we're looking forward to working together towards a strong and healthy CDR industry in France.
Best wishes for the year ahead,
Yours sincerely
Julie Gosalvez
Chairwoman of the Board, AFEN
