Industry Report: Biomethane, a Lever
for Carbon Elimination
in France
Overview of the deposit and the barriers, and recommendations for France
Carbon removal (CR) is a critical issue for France in terms of climate action and national sovereignty, given the country’s carbon neutrality goals for 2050. The capture and storage of biogenic CO₂ from biomethane is a key lever for achieving negative emissions, but it remains insufficiently integrated into the National Low-Carbon Strategy (SNBC), the strategy for deploying CO₂ capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) deployment strategy, and existing support mechanisms.
AFEN has published a sector report on this topic: an overview of the potential and barriers, a comparison of public policies in Europe, and recommendations for France.
