Inclusion criteria

A project is designated as an “EDC project” if it meets the following three conditions:

  1. Establishing a foothold in France : project concrete (announced / pilot / operational) locatable within France (mainland France, including Corsica).
  2. EDC Intention : removal of CO₂ from the atmosphere and claimed long-term storage, based on a verifiable source (official website, press release, public documents).
  3. Scope of Technology : only engineered / semi-engineered :
    • Biochar / BiCRS (sustainable carbon storage using biochar)
    • BECCS / Bio-based CO₂ Capture and Storage
    • Mineralization
    • Accelerated weathering (ERW)
    • DAC (Direct Air Capture)
    • Geological storage

Exclusions (explicit) :

  • Organizations without a traceable project in mainland France (e.g., R&D without a French location, or localized international deployment).
  • Projects CO₂ capture at the source (industry) or CCUS aimed solely at decarbonization, without EDC intent (no withdrawal mechanism and no long-term storage associated with withdrawal).
  • Projects natural wells and projects “Low-Carbon Label” (LBC) are not included at this stage, as they fall under a different scope that is already well established in the region, with many more active projects than EDC’s technological and semi-technological solutions.
